For
many years a graphic designer and even more years an artist experimenting
with painting, sculpture, mosaic and photography. The recent advances
in computer technology have resulted in the combination of these artistic
media through the infinitely versatile medium of digital art, from digital
photography through to artwork created entirely on computer. This technological
innovation, it seems, turned out to be the breakthrough I was waiting
for - ideally suited to the art I was striving to create.
A
life-long love of art, from the first cave paintings to present day but
with a special interest in the disturbing beauty of the images created
in ancient Mexico and Central America. The Aztecs and the Maya - their
ancestors and contemporaries the Toltecs, Zapotecs, Mixtecs and Olmecs
and many far older cultures. Ancient civilizations each with a unique
artistic style but with threads linking to each other and to a distant
past. The images of ancient art which I have created are a personal interpretation
and are not intended to represent an archaeological reconstruction though
I have attempted to remain true to the original work whenever possible.
This
fascination for ancient Mesoamerican art has taken me to Mexico several
times.
I am currently living and working in the region of south Lancashire called
Worthington near the village of Standish, where I have been for several
years. It's a largely rural area despite it's location in the industrial
northwest of England. This semi-rural environment continues to fascinate
me with its changing seasonal faces and so is a constant subject for my
art.
